1950s

  • Jack Lanigan Sr. devised a boom crane that could lift utility poles from the back of a truck and over parked cars. To turn his idea into reality, he took a leave from his job at the City of Chicago in 1954 and started Mi-Jack Products, named for his two sons, Michael and Jack.
  • The material handling industry held no bounds for Jack Sr. He searched for needs in the marketplace and devoted his energy to finding “a better way”.

1960s

  • Mi-Jack began distributing self-propelled Rubber Tire Gantry cranes.
  • Jack Sr. knew that keeping old customers was as important as finding new ones. This precipitated a philosophy that became the Mi-Jack slogan for the next 40 years, “Where Service is Golden”.
  • Expanding from simply supplying the railroads equipment to providing operating services and then into the construction equipment distribution industry, Mi-Jack steadfastly maintained the benchmark of service response and reliability that all others would be measured against.

1980s

  •  In the early 1980s, Mi-Jack purchased the manufacturing rights to the cranes they had been selling. As the manufacturer, Mi-Jack could better serve the needs of their customers.
  • Incorporating their modifications at will, Mi-Jack entered into a new era, opening doors to new markets both nationally and internationally.

1990s

  • Mi-Jack ventured into railroad operations
  • In 1998, the nation of Panama announced it was taking bids for a 50-year concession to rebuild and operate its 47.6-mile railroad stretching across the Isthmus of Panama. With Mi-Jack’s cranes having had a long presence in Latin America, Lanigan banded together with the Kansas City Southern Railway to submit a winning bid to operate the line, called the Panama Canal Railway Co.

2000s

  • Mi-Jack formed the Lanco Group, which is a diverse group of companies specializing in many disciplines: from heavy equipment manufacturing to sales and service; from facility operations to event promotions; from integrated technologies to equipment distribution.
  • By focusing on product quality, service, and communication at every level, Mi-Jack (and all other companies beneath the Lanco umbrella) consistently sets the standard for performance and customer satisfaction.

2010s

  • Rapid technological advancements and proprietary research positioned Mi-Jack to proactively provide industry-leading solutions and service.
  • Mi-Jack’s manufacturing is credited with innovations in: electronically controlled hydraulics for faster, smoother operations; the use of CAD in R&D for modeling, ergonomics and stress analysis to provide more reliable and longer trouble-free operation and the use of cameras, sensors and proximity switches for safer operation.
  • Mi-Jack’s Technology Research department has integrated the latest in Radio Frequency and GPS technologies for remote and automated crane operation, and has enabled Mi-Jack cranes to operate using a variety of available power sources.
