Mi-Jack Monobeam Hits Pena Boulevard

The newest industrial rubber-tired gantry crane added to Mi-Jack Products’ fleet, the Monobeam, has proven its strength and versatility in challenging environments and complex job sites. Designed for efficiency and reduced footprint, two single beam gantry cranes were deployed for the Peña Boulevard Construction project with major construction and engineering organization, Kiewit, on the E470 tollway leading to Denver International Airport, a crucial infrastructure upgrade to reduce heavy Denver Airport traffic.

Mi-Jack’s Monobeam: The Advantage of a Single Beam Gantry Crane

The Monobeam is a significant addition to Mi-Jack’s current fleet of industrial rubber-tired gantry cranes. Engineered for precision in tight spaces, its compact single-beam design allows for greater maneuverability and operational efficiency without compromising capacity. This design reduces cost and assembly time while maintaining the rugged durability Mi-Jack Products is known for.

“The evolution of the precast industry typically results in bigger, longer, heavier product lines.  That is where the Monobeam from Mi-Jack comes into play. It gives the opportunity for a client to tandem pick with a smaller footprint and lower cost.” Kyle Alfieri, Regional Sales Manager, Mi-Jack Products.

Key features include:

  • Space efficiency: A streamlined structure requiring minimal on-site assembly.
  • Portability: Easy to move throughout job site using remote control steering, making it ideal for infrastructure projects.
  • Flexibility: Easy to move on the job with remote control steering.
  • Tandem Lifting: Allows operators to perform tandem lifts up to 100 US tons throughout yards and jobsites.
  • Cost-effective: Works in tandem with existing RTG cranes to begin tandem lifting operations on jobsites with budgets in mind.

The Monobeam was purpose-built to meet the growing demands of infrastructure projects while keeping budgets minimized, performance maximized, and operations running smoothly; a combination that made it an ideal choice for the Pena Boulevard project.

Pena Boulevard Construction: Improving Denver’s Infrastructure

As one of the busiest airports in the U.S., Denver International Airport (DIA) requires seamless connectivity to accommodate millions of passengers throughout the year. The E470 Widening Project near Peña Boulevard addresses growing traffic demands by adding lanes, upgrading interchanges, and improving the tollway’s infrastructure, with completion expected by 2025.

To meet the project’s goals, Kiewit turned to Mi-Jack Products to tackle one of the critical phases: lifting and placing precast concrete components for bridge and interchange upgrades. Kiewit opted for two Monobeams to effortlessly lift massive precast beams in tandem, enabling them to navigate the complex job site with minimal disruption to traffic, all while working exclusively through the night.

The Monobeam’s design enabled the team to complete the tandem lifting of precast girders efficiently throughout the night within a limited working space.

Monobeam Excels Within Tight Construction Zones

During its time on the Peña Boulevard project, the two Monobeams performed reliably together lifting precast girders and other heavy components into place. Despite the challenges of a high-traffic job site and tight project deadlines, the gantry crane’s design enabled the team to complete the tandem lifting of precast girders efficiently during nighttime hours. Its single-beam structure and remote-controlled advanced steering capabilities proved invaluable in the tight construction zone, allowing Kiewit’s team to maximize efficiency while maintaining safety standards.
